VILLAGES OF THE FUTURE is a non-profit organization, incorporated in the state of New Jersey of the United States of America. It was founded by my Grandmother, Lorraine Lavender, and I, Lynette Hammond. We envision a community, a village, where the residents can live with dignity, with pride and a sense of belonging and work to maintain and improve their living conditions. There exists a "VILLAGE" in many neighborhoods that outsiders do not see beyond the poverty and problems. But it is HOME.
The mission of VILLAGES OF THE FUTURE is not that of a typical charity. We work with communities to make better use of common areas, develop greener spaces, supply functional equipment. We partner with local contacts to develop ability among the residents to trust and care of each other as well as learn job skills. When the community participates in running its own neighborhood services, then the community is ultimately managing their own futures.
